"When I'm dressed as a woman, like this, I find I am most concerned with the silky sound of my skirt rustling on the floor ... But when I dress as a man, I simply begin to think."
New Anatomies tells the story of turn-of-the-century, European-born explorer Isabelle Eberhardt, who, casting off the traditional values of her day and age, posed as an Arab man and traveled across Islamic northern Africa.
Against a backdrop of poetry and song, playwright Timberlake Wertenbaker paints an extraordinary picture of this courageous, sharp-tongued woman who died tragically in a flash flood when she was just 27 years old and the divide between the worlds she inhabited.
An ensemble of five women performs roles both male and female.

Rehearsals will begin January 2, 2008, Sunday-Thursday evenings
Shows:February 27-March 28 with performances Thursday-Saturday at 8:00 and Sundays at 7:00

Show Information:
Dinah’s worthless husband, Hamlin, is selling wrapping paper out of the trunk of his car. And she’s going to leave him if he doesn’t sell every-single-roll by Christmas Eve. Problem is, Hamlin’s not sure the bitch would even notice if he did sell all the rolls – in between taking care of her paraplegic brother, Jimmy, and opening her in-house-spa, Dinah has zero time for him or their fading marriage. As a desperate Hamlin moves an even more desperate Lulu into the house to help him get his wife and life back, they soon learn that using love as currency is a gamble – and not everyone will walk away alive.
Dinah, 30s Studying to be a cosmetologist – she’d be good at anything that would require her finger nails to always be clipped and clean. Her marriage to Hamlin, however, is muddy and overgrown. And she’s tired of taking care of it.
Hamlin, 30s Selling wrapping paper out of the trunk of his car to make Dinah’s dreams come true. Has spent the last seven years trying to prove himself as both a husband and a man. Knows this is his last chance.
Jimmy, 20s Dinah’s albinistic brother, who (besides having suffered a motorcycle accident that has surely left him brain dead) suffers under Dinah’s scissors, razors and skin treatments on a daily basis. Seems to take up all of the light and air in a room.
Lulu, 20s A former ballerina who won’t admit that her time has come and gone. Still waiting. Still twirling. But so desperate to just stand still. You can’t take your eyes off of her. And she has no idea your eyes are even on her to begin with.
Time Commitment: Rehearsals will begin in September 2, 2008, Sunday-Thursday evenings, Shows: October 12-November 23, Thursday-Sunday evenings
